Brian Bliss is a UCSD undergraduate Chemical Engineering major (Revelle, Class of 2017). His project focus is on high capacity energy storage using porous silicon. His mentor is David Roberts. He will participate in the summer school from June 30 to Sept 18.

Yonit Bussi

Yonit Bussi is a PhD student in the Norman Seiden International Multidisciplinary Graduate program in Nanoscience & Nanotechnology at the Technion – Israel Institute of Technology, working under the direction of Ester Segal. Her research focuses on responsive hybrid systems based on porous Si. She will participate in the summer school from July 6 to August 21.

Chengcheng Fang

Chengcheng Fang is an incoming Ph.D. student in the UCSD Materials Science and Engineering program. She recieved her B.S. in Materials Science and Engineering from Zhejiang University, China and her M.Phil. from Hong Kong University of Science and Technology, working on Si-based nanocomposite materials for lithium ion batteries. She will participate in the summer school from mid-July to September.

Project F: "Oxidation of Porous Si for Drug Delivery"

Gaby Garcia

Gaby Garcia is a first year PhD student in the Science and Engineering Materials Graduate program at Autonomous University of San Luis Potosi, Mexico; her thesis involves the study of optoelectronic and mechanical interactions between live cells and nanostructured materials (carbon nanotubes and porous Si), under direction of Prof. Gabriela Palestino. She will participate in the summer school from July 1 to August 28.

Hankyeol Jung is an incoming PhD student in the MSE Department. She received her BS and MS in Materials Science and Engineering from Korea Advanced Institute of Science and Technology (KAIST). Her MS graduate research work with Prof. Duk Young Jeon focused on photo-induced charge transfer between CuInS2 quantum dots and graphene and its application to photodetectors.

BJ Kim

Byungji (BJ) Kim is a Ph.D. student in the UCSD Materials Science and Engineering (MSE) program, who joined the group in Fall 2014. She received her B.S.E in Materials Science and Engineering from University of Michigan- Ann Arbor, and her M.S. in Bio and Brain Engineering from Korea Advanced Institute of Science and Technology (KAIST).

Taeho Kim

Taeho Kim is a post-doctoral researcher who joined the lab in November, 2014. He completed his Ph.D. in Chemical & Biological Engineering from Seoul National University (SNU), Korea in 2013. His Ph.D. work with Prof. Taeghwan Hyeon focused on development of functional inorganic nanoparticles for medical diagnostics and therapeutics, particularly for stem cell tracking and ischemic stroke treatment.

Dokyoung Kim

Dokyoung Kim is a post-doctoral researcher who joined the lab in January, 2015. He completed his Ph.D. in Chemistry from Postech in Korea in 2014 under the direction of Prof. Kyo Han Ahn.

Katharina Urmann

Katharina Urmann is a second year PhD student in a Dual Doctorate Program between Leibniz University Hannover and the Technion – Israel Institute of Technology. Her research focuses on the integration of aptamers as novel capture probes in porous silicon optical biosensors. She will participate in the summer school from July 6th to August 21st

Juan Ybarra

Juan Ybarra received his B.S. in Materials Science and Engineering from MIT in 2012. While there he competed his senior thesis in the research group of Prof. Caroline Ross studying the self-assembly of metal-containing block copolymers as an alternative to photolithography for creating nanoscale circuits. Before joining the Sailor Group, Juan worked at Bio-Rad's Digital Biology Center in Cambridge researching and developing methods for scalable manufacturing of plastic microfluidic consumable devices used in automated genetic sequencing systems.

Bridget Zhang is attending UCSD on exchange from the University of Hong Kong. She will participate in the summer school from July 6th to August 21st.

Project D: "Polymer/Porous Silicon Nanoparticle Composites"

Ling Zhang

Ling Zhang is an incoming PhD student in the Chemistry and Biochemistry Department. She was an analytical chemistry major at Zhejiang University in Hangzhou, China, and did her undergraduate research work with Prof. Jianmin Wu. Her interest is in porous silicon-based biosensors. She will participate in the summer school from July to September.
